NOMAD ST. MORITZ 2026
NOMAD ST. MORITZ 2026
Pierre Marie Giraud is pleased to announce the gallery's participation in NOMAD St. Moritz 2026, from February 12 to February 15.
A curated selection of unique artworks and limited-edition pieces will highlight a conversation between artists from Europe, Japan, and the United States, working with materials such as glass, wood, and ceramics. This showcase presents a range of artistic expressions from different regions, offering a singular perspective on contemporary applied arts. At NOMAD, our presentation will provide insight into diverse approaches and traditions in contemporary art from around the world, within the intimate setting of Villa Beaulieu.
For this occasion, the gallery has carefully selected works by renowned artists such as Jos Devriendt, Alev Ebuzziya Siesbye, Fujita Kyohei, Jean Girel, Herzog & de Meuron, Daisuke Iguchi, Imaemon XIV, Yoshiro Kimura, Takuro Kuwata, Miwa Kyusetsu, Jennifer Lee, Kristin McKirdy, Ritsue Mishima, Ron Nagle, Yoichi Ohira, Masaomi Raku, Sterling Ruby, Jane Yang-D?Haene, and Masaomi Yasunaga.
For the first time, at NOMAD St. Moritz 2026, we are proud to present the works of Miwa Kyusetsu XIII. Born in 1951, Miwa is a major figure rooted in the Hagi ceramic tradition, while continuously expanding its vocabulary through a highly personal sculptural language. He studied at the San Francisco Art Institute (1975?1981) and, in May 2019, assumed the name Miwa Kyusetsu XIII, continuing the lineage while asserting a distinctly contemporary vision.
Miwa?s practice embraces the full expressive potential of clay and firing?moving between tea-related forms and powerful, architectural volumes. His works are celebrated for their dynamic, innovative presence, often underscored by the Miwa family?s white Hagi glaze (Kyusetsu white) and the vivid contrast between glazed and unglazed surfaces, where the material?s fractures, edges, and traces of process become integral to the final form.
Both rooted in tradition and driven by experimentation, Miwa Kyusetsu XIII?s works embody an evolving frontier of contemporary ceramics, where heritage, materiality, and bold abstraction meet with rare intensity.
