Thaddeus Wolfe

8 November - 6 December 2025

Pierre Marie Giraud is pleased to present a solo exhibition of works by American glass artist Thaddeus Wolfe, on view at the gallery from Saturday, November 8 to Saturday, December 6, 2025. The exhibition will feature a selection of Wolfe’s recent glass vessels, showcasing his innovative molding process and distinctive aesthetic language.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, in 1979, Thaddeus Wolfe studied glass at the Cleveland Institute of Art, earning a BFA in 2002. After moving to New York City and apprenticing with noted glass artists, Wolfe established his own Brooklyn-based studio in 2009. His work pushes the boundaries of traditional glassmaking through a unique technique that begins with meticulously carved Styrofoam molds and culminates in multi-layered, textured glass forms often enhanced with brass and bronze elements.

Wolfe draws inspiration from both natural and human-made environments — from the organic deterioration seen in urban surfaces to the geometric complexity of minerals, plants, and early 20th-century architectural movements. This synthesis results in sculptural works that blend painterly and geological qualities, challenging the viewer’s expectations of glass as a medium.

His process involves layering tinted glass onto a blown bubble within a single-use mold, after which surfaces are carved and polished to reveal intricate interior strata. The resulting pieces, which Wolfe refers to as Assemblages, are dynamic and multidimensional, embodying a dialogue between form, texture, and light.
Wolfe’s work is included in prominent public collections such as the Corning Museum of Glass—where he was honored with the 2016 Rakow Commission—the Brooklyn Museum, Yale University Art Gallery, Rhode Island School of Design Museum, and Musée des arts décoratifs de Montréal, among others. He has held residencies at the Pilchuck Glass School, Creative Glass Center of America, and Museum of Glass.

This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience Wolfe’s visionary approach to glass sculpture, where technical mastery meets an expansive artistic imagination.

We invite you to join us for the opening reception on Saturday, November 8th, from 6 to 8 PM.
