Chikuunsai IV Tanabe

Chikuunsai IV Tanabe

6 October - 5 November 2022

During this exhibition the Japanese artist brought his extraordinary bamboo art to the gallery for the third time. The work of Chikuunsai IV Tanabe, formerly known as Shouchiku III Tanabe and born as Takeo, consists of two pillars: one is characterized by traditional, functional objects that truly inherit the techniques and spirits of his forefathers. The other pillar of Tanabe?s work, however,  is purely sculptural and considered highly innovative in Japan today. His signature is one of organic sculptural forms made with tiger bamboo, black bamboo and other natural materials. They reflect his consciousness of connections in life and the inheritance of traditional arts found within his creation of robust forms oriented toward three-dimensional modern art objects.
